One of the key experiences recommended during your time as a postgraduate is doing an internship. Gaining relevant work experience is essential to increasing your employability, particularly as a business student. That’s why in my last semester during my Master’s from Macquarie Business School, I landed a position with Stryder Inc. as a Digital Marketing Intern. After applying for the position, I was interviewed with the manager, and we instantly clicked over digital marketing. A week later I was hired and started my work.

Stryder is an aggregate government support community transport provider in Sydney, Australia. Operating for over 30 years Stryder offers its service to senior citizens. As a licensed NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) service provider, many senior citizens utilize their transportation service to access clients’ workplace and day activities, as well as for daily transportation. Stryder also provides transportation choices and solutions to the larger community, including “Home Care Package clients” (HCP). People on HCP get to enjoy Social Day Trips as they provide them the flexibility to socialize and go out and about. Their ultimate vision is to be accessible to individuals with restricted mobility to provide a credible, safe, and private transportation platform that is stress-free and comfortable for the customers. In 2020 Stryder won the “Northern District local business award” (source)

It’s my last day at Stryder :( (Source: Facebook)

I was intrigued by the warm culture at Stryder after speaking to some of the seniors and other employees & greeted me with open arms. Stryder wanted someone from a marketing background who can help them in managing their social media presence. So during the program, I had the opportunity to put my marketing knowledge into practice & perform actual marketing & branding skills for the company. I had the chance to learn and help them in optimizing blog posts, weekly Facebook content, gaining familiarity with SEO for boosting up the social media keeping relevant with the customer’s behavior and their standpoint. I was also able to take part in building content for the monthly Newsletter for the website. I also worked on marketing strategies for an Instagram account and had the scope of updating the Facebook & Google business page. I feel that it was an enriching experience to be part of the Stryder internship program as I got to learn a lot of technical skills and gain valuable hands-on experience on the lead generation list for medical and hospital centers. Sometimes it was challenging working on other aspects like WordPress & MailChimp because I have not had the experience on this beforehand, but my supervisor was always willing to help me and give her advice and guidance to overcome these challenges.

Since we were amid the COVID-19 pandemic there were many things, I was not able to do. Stryder has an extensive social outing program where they provide opportunities to meet new people and get out & about. They take their customers to different parts of the city to enjoy new places like scenic drives or a lunch stop overlooking the beach. So, I could not be part of this wonderful experience of meeting these new people.

I think Stryder is a great place to work because they allow you to grow. The workplace has employees with diverse backgrounds who help you to thrive. Each member contributes valuable skills to the platform to guarantee that the organization not only complies with rules but also has effective strategies in place to secure Stryder’s future. I have learned both the technical aspects like the process of making a decision as well as the intangibles such as strong work ethic and learning from other employees such as the drivers who have dedicated their life in working voluntarily or part-time to help the aged care citizens. I am grateful to work in a company who are always working on their future growth and coming up with new ideas which can help the elder care facilities and bring such a social impact in the community in a positive manner. So, I am really glad to be allowed to be part of this organization which helped me to develop myself and my skills for the near future.
